African International Championship: Nigeria Wins 16 Medals in Gymnastics

By Admin TIG Gymnasts of Nigeria won 16 medals at the just concluded 2018 edition of the African International level system Championships in Pretoria, South Africa. The team led by its head coach, Anthony Asuquo who is also the elected Technical Representative of the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN) got 4 gold, 2 silver and 10 bronze medals with 22 gymnasts participating in the event. Moferanoluwa Lawal, Yimika Kolade, Mindy Akinola and Avani won gold medals while Nimishe Sandeep and Morola lawal won silver. Geda Liyel-Imoke, Volda Liyel-Imoke and Daval liyel-Imoke; children of Former Cross Rivers state governor , Liyel-Imoke, as well as Safiya Tukur, daughter of the Speaker, Borno State house of assembly won bronze medals. Others are; Adila Salisu, Lara Anot, Safiya Tukur, Iseoluwa Babarinde, Amaka Asemota, Daniella Asemota and Tamilore Falayajo Nigeria Sports minster, Solomon Dalung said, "All thanks to God Almighty they are done with the first competition. Nigeria got 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 6 Bronze medals at the just concluded African Age groups level system championship". "The Nigerian team came out top in the last edition of the championship but Coach Asuquo is optimistic the team will do even better this time. "We are expecting to bring back more medals this year", He said. Dalung said "Various sports in Nigeria are taking a new and higher dimension and with determination, we will reposition sport and place Nigeria among other global sports competitors across the world". The country will participate at the Regional and Junior Olympics level competition from 3rd to 5th August.
