African Nations Cup: Nigeria Wins 6 Gold, 8 Silver, 2 Bronze Medals

Team Nigeria on Friday in Abuja won six gold, eight silver and two bronze medals in eight events in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup Track Cycling at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola stadium

BSN Sports reports that eight countries out of 10 participated in the maiden edition of the Africa Cup Track Cycling championship.

BSN reports that Egypt won only two gold medals in the championship.

In the day one event, Salama Slah from Egypt won gold in Women Junior Omnium while Nigeria Mary Samuel won Silver Tawa Yekeen won Bronze for Nigeria.

In Men Junior Ominum : Temple Okeyan won first Gold for Nigeria, Ahmed Elsnfeky from Egypt won Silver and Vitalis from Nigeria won Bronze.

In Women Elite Ominum: Ebsan Zaed from Egypt won Gold , Eze Ukpeseraye from Nigeria won Silver and Awa Bamogo from Burkina Faso won Bronze.

In Men Elite Ominum : Kurotimi Abaka from Nigeria won second gold while Qadiri Ajibade from Nigeria won Silver while Assem Elhussiney from Egypt won Bronze

In Team Sprint Elite women : Ese Ukpeseraye and Tombrapa Grips won Gold from Nigeria while Salma Salah and Harder Ossam won Silver.

In team Sprint men : Assam Khalil, Ahmed Mousa and Mohammed Farrag from Egypt won Gold while Caleb Kalizibe , Isa Momoh, Goodnews Edet won Silver for Nigeria

In Junior men Team Sprint : Temple Okeyah, Shedrack Igbebor and Bethel Vitalis won Gold medal.

In Junior women Team Sprint : Tawakat Yekeen and Mary Samuel won Gold medal while Hadeer Ossam and Salma Salah.

Emmanuel Onosanya, the coach of team Nigeria said he was happy about his team performance in the first day of the event.

" They really work well and I'm happy with outcome of the event , we won the larger percentage of gold medals.

" I'm proud of my riders because they performed well in all the event , we will win more medals in the remaining two days events

Our target is win more medat so that we can participate in the Olympic and the world championship, " he said.

Ebtissan Zaied from Egypt said her traget is to win a trophy in the champoinship.

"I'm so happy that today in Abuja i won medal in most of the event, I thank people that supported and encourage me to win. My people are so happy with me for this success.

" My target is that I will win a trophy and more medals at the end of this championship, I will get a gold medal cyclist from Egypt and also representing Africa," she said.

Abaka Kurotimi, said he was exicted to see Nigeria hosting this championship, it will be a big slap on us to see other countries coming to pick medals in our territory.

"My target is to go for the Olympic and world championship and if I can get something better then but this is just a starting point," he said

NAN reports that the Africa Track Cycling Championship, also known as the Africa Cup, will hold from Friday to Sunday at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
