African Universities Olympic: UNIPORT To Feature 4 Athletes In Maiden Edition By Admin University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has accepted the invitation of The Association of African Universities (AAU) in partnership with Al-Azhar University to participate in the maiden edition of African Universities Olympics holding from Sunday 13th - 20th March, 2019 at Al-Azhar University, Cairo-Egypt. The School's Director of Sports, Prof. Ken Anugweje revealed that the institution was invited and will only participate in athletics. "We received a letter from the host university in Cairo that the competition is being organised under the auspices of AAU and that UNIPORT is nominated to represent West Africa in Athletics. Four athletes (two male and two female) and a coach were selected to attend the event. The athletes were chosen based on their success and recent performance at the 2018 West African University Games hosted by Uniport. They are; Joseph Edafiadhe - Long Jump Champion Blessing Oluwayemi - Tripple Jump Champion Favour Ofili - 400m African Youth/WAUG Champion Grace Nwokocha - 100m and 200m sprinter. George Obiano - Coach. In a statement, The Director of Sports said: "These athletes are all gold medallists in their respective events and we considered their prospects of doing well"
