Aftermath of Nigeria Loss: Nigerians React to Whether Gernot Rohr Should Continue as Super Eagles Coach or Not

Aftermath
Aftermath of Super Eagles Exit from Russia 2018: Read Nigerians Reactions to Rohr Continuity. Compiled By Niyi Busari BSN Sports attention is drawn to one of the headline captions in front page of a national sports newspaper which states "Rohr to stay....NFF" In view of this report, www.bsnsports.com.ng went ahead to seek opinions of football loving Nigerians. Nigerians reacted to the news that the NFF is willing to keep the Super Eagles coach after the senior national team failed to make it out of the group stage, that contain Croatia, Iceland, Argentina, and Nigeria. Croatia surprisingly came as table topper with maximum nine points while Argentina claimed the second position with 4 points at the expense of Nigeria. Nigerians have divergent opinions as to whether he should continue or been shown the exit door. Here are some of the comments of Nigerians across the country. Odewale Hamed Abuja, Nigeria Gernot Rohr should continue as Super Eagles coach because we were unable to qualify for two consecutive Nations cup and against all odds qualify Nigeria as the first African country for the world cup in Russia. Continuity is key, he has a crop of young players that if well nurtured will develop to rule the world. Though, he failed to qualify from the group stage of group D but we ahould not use that as yardstick to call for his sack. Let him continue his good job he has started. With him Super Eagles have a bright future. Femi John Emmanuel, Journalist, Abuja As far as i am concerned, he has failed. If late Stephen Keshi a Nigerian former Eagles coach can qualify to the second round of Brazil 2014 world cup with less salary and free hands, why not a foreign coach whom we believe is the messiah to take us to at least the world cup quarter finals. The likes of Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana have all played at the quarter finals of the world cup. So, why Nigeria? His match reading, changes etc lacks professionalism as was exposed in the friendlies and the world cup in Russia. He should be sacked and look out for more competent hand to lead us to hlory Mr. Obinna Mikel Cosby No absolutely NO, his tactics never helped us at all how can we relax from thr first minute of the game to THE end, am talking OF our last group match our performance was not good to me when we equalize the Argentines was frustrated. So, Rohr should have changed the tactics for us to press more but rather we were relaxed for them to pressure us that constitute to our loss and i think he was not fair. Victor moses performance was nothing to write home about from day one to the end and i was even shocked to see that Ogenyi Onazi did not play this world cup is it becomes he had misunderstanding with the captain? Rohr can not help our football grow. I prefer a local and typical Nigerian born coach to lead the team, i remembered former Super Eagles coach late Stephen keshi when we lose the game, may his soul rest in peace Rohr should go. Michael Odey From Life Camp, Abuja. Continuity is key if we are to excel in future competitions, regardless of our outing in Russia, I think coach Gernot Rohr has done a good job with the Super Eagles of Nigeria and he should remain as our coach. Name: Francis Joseph Location: Bayelsa state Yes, he deserves to remain as the super eagles coach. Genot Rhor has done a great job for the super eagles and the squad is relatively young, although its disappointing that they are out of the world cup and there are areas that needs improvement, but I do believe the future is bright with Rhor in charge. It must not be hiring and firing all the time. Let's start planning for the upcoming Afcon qualifiers and the next world cup in 2022. Bringing a new coach now will mean starting afresh again. In 1984, France won their first of two Euros so far and there manager, Michel Hidalgo was in charge for five solid years before they won that trophy. Let's not forget that even one of the best coaches we have had, Clemence WesterHoff was also given the time to build a winning team. Building a winning team takes time. those at helm of affairs just has to be patience with the coach. Stephen Emmanuel I am not a fan of fire brigade approach towards our national team coaches. Lets not forget that Gernot Rohr came on board when the Super Eagles was at its lowest point; failing to qualify for AFCON back to back. Keeping him will do us good than letting him go for the sake of continuity. Don't forget AFCON 2019 qualifiers is just around the corner. Abiala Dahunsi Gernot Rohr should continue his job with Super Eagles but he need at this point to give us our formidable team and tactical identity that will conquer Africa and rest of the world in the nearest future,l. NFF should give him freehand to choose the team he want and it is high time we stop man know man in selecting the squad. Kingsley Ijomah Gernot Rohr should continue as the head coach of the super eagles but he needs to give more room for our local players to come in to the squad. I don't buy the idea that all our best players are in Europe. He also needs to improve on his tactics. Uknelson,Akure Ondo state In my own opinion I think it's time we start thinking like Nigerians and give rooms to our own coaches too,,,dere is nothin bad with rohr continuing as head coach but I tink d super eagles has to grow around d home base too and with rohr as d head coach I don't see dat happening,,,rohr is a brilliant coach but doesn't no how to read games wen it matters,,the super eagles first half is always a disaster,,rohr doesn't deserve to continue bcos if it was to be a local coach dat performed dis way at d world cup am pretty sure by now he must ve bin sacked,,my opinion though,, Charles Greg Bassey Radio/Tv Host, Benin City NFF should maintain Gernot Rorh's job as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The technical Committee should be saddled with the responsibility of establishing Home Based players into the Super Eagles System. Rorh should stop looking down on players from the NPFL. I am very sure that Lokosa would have performed more than Ighalo in front of Goal. In a nutshell, Rorh should remain and he should give percentage to Home Based players in the Super Eagles set up. Dayo Awoniyi Sports Analyst Abuja Rohr should be allow to continue because continuity is one of the things that help team grows and excel. Our local players should however be given chance to prove themselves and above all attention should also be given to football cadres like U13,15,17 etc for foptball developmental processes and stages.
