Agali Explains Reason He Missed 2002 World Cup

By Sampson Adedeji

Former Nigeria's Super Eagles striker Victor Agali has revealed the reasons he opted out of Nigeria's Super Eagles team ahead of Japan/Korea World Cup in 2002.

Former Schalke 04 attacker was pivotal in the Super Eagles qualification for biggest soccer competition, scoring vital goals and making purposeful contributions,BSN Reports.

Agali revealed what happened within the team after the 2022 African Cup Of Nations in Mali while speaking to BSN and further frowned at the injustice that took place in preparations for the world cup.

"Talking about the world cup 2022, we all know the scenario to the qualification, we know the players that were involved in qualifying for the world cup.

Immediately after the Nations cup a lots of things happened, the team and technical crew was scattered, too anything began to happen and it looks like the team not really prepared for the world cup.

A lots of players were pushed out and lots of players also found their way into the team, I don't know which way they used and is contrary to what I stand for as a player.

So I just opted out of the world cup, that was what I did, I was thinking a lot of players going to follow suit but choose to save their face, that is some of those things that has affected our football till today.

Some feels they can make their way and go to the world cup, not thing thinking of the country's image but just for the appearances fees and he doesn't really make sense.

If not the issue, the Super Eagles would have a better future in the competition.

It's a sad moment but I have put that behind me, i have to make to a decision then and I'm very happy with my decision, I don't stand for injustice, I support people correctly", he concluded.
