Aiteo Cup: Eguma Not Happy With Fixture Congestion
By Sampson Adedeji
Ahead of the next round of the 2021 Aiteo federation cup against league rivals, Heartland FC of Owerri, head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma has complained about fixture congestion, BSNSports.com.ng can reports.
The Pride of Rivers have rallied back against Warri Wolves at home on Sunday in the match-day 32 of the Nigeria Professional Football League to secure a 2-1 win.
A performance Eguma believed not good enough because the players are already feeling the hit of congested fixtures in the NPFL and the Aiteo Cup.
“You could see that our performance today (Sunday) was just average,” Eguma reacting to the win against Wolves.
“I think that it was as a result of the journeys we made within this week. It was very difficult, and I believe that we played under fatigue today.
“But you know the fixtures have put it that way. We’ll try and make adjustments in our selection and ensure that we work against fatigue.
If not, it won’t be good for us, because the fixtures are very congested – the Aiteo Cup and the league.
“After every 48 hours, we are playing a game, and not only playing a game but making very long distant journeys.
The wear and tear of those journeys affect the players and affect their performance. And it also affects the results," he added.
Rivers United will take Heartland on Wednesday for a place in the 4th round of the cup competition.
