Ajax Amsterdam star, Abdelhak Nouri has miraculously woken up after two years and nine months in a coma.

The 22-year-old Dutch ace collapsed on the pitch in a match in Austria July 2017 after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia attack.

The family of Ajax midfielder Abdelhak Nouri have confirmed that he is now more responsive, although he is still “very bedridden” according to his brother.

Nouri’s family asked for privacy in the days and weeks following the incident and messages of support flooded in for the youngster from around the world of sport.

Abderrahim, who communicates with Abdelhak through eyebrow signals and smiles, says that the former midfielder has even started watching football again.

The 22-year-old collapsed on the pitch in a pre-season match against Werder Bremen in July 2017.

He suffered severe and permanent brain damage due to a lack of oxygen after experiencing a heart attack due to cardiac arrhythmia.

He sustained severe and permanent brain damage as a direct result of the incident.

The news is all the more incredible given the fact the family said in July 2017 that he had virtually no chance of recovery and was in a permanent vegetative state.

Nouri’s brother said that his younger sibling is ‘doing well’ in a house which has been designed to cater for his specific needs.
