Alimi brace fail to lift Super Eagles to CHAN finals
By Sampson Adedeji
The hope of Nigeria's Super Eagles B side to secure their passage into the 2020 Championship of African Nations in Cameroon has been dashed.
The Nigeria side lost 1-4 in the first leg match played fortnight ago in Lome and required 3 unreply goals to progress into the competition final to be held in Cameroon.
The second leg played at the Agege stadium in Lagos saw the Nigeria side dominating the proceedings and it paid off early in the game as the Lobi star forward Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring inside 10th minute.
All the efforts of the Eagles B team to double their tally in the first half proved abortive as the Togolese stood their ground through out the first stanza.
The second half resumed with Nigeria still probing the visitors and eventually have the ball at the back of the net through Ndah but the referee ruled it offside.
Alimi completed his brace in the 71st minute of the game and increased the hopes of the millions of Nigerians rooting for the team.
The referee added 10 minute into game but the Nigeria side failed to make it count as they failed to add to their tally.
Despite the 2-0 win in the second leg, Nigeria who finished as runner up in the last edition in Morocco will not be participating in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Cameroon in 2020 as Togo progressed 4-3 on aggregates.
