Appear Before Court On Friday Or Be Charged For Contempt - Federal High Court Tells Ministry of Sports, BFN
By Our Reporter
An Abuja Federal High Court has nullified the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Badminton Federation, (BFN) declaring it illegal even as the judge has summoned the 13 members of the committee including the chairman, Francis Orbih to appear before it.
The leadership crisis rocking the BFN took a twist earlier in October with the constitution of a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the federation pending the elections by the ministry of youth and sports.
But a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declared the committee of the BFN illegal and restrained the members from performing any function relating to the federation until the issues are settled in court.
This was confirmed in the court injunction dated 25th October 2021 addressed to the sports minister, Sunday Dare, the BFN, the electoral committee of the sports ministry, chairman election guidelines committee and former BFN president, Francis Orbih.
The injunction was signed by the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice I.E Ekwo, who also summoned Francis Orbih and other Caretaker Committee members to appear in court on Friday 29th October 2021 to show cause for the contempt.
It should be noted that, the sports ministry earlier appointed former BFN president Francis Orbih alongside 12 other as caretaker committee that will pilot the affairs of the Badminton federation till the current crisis and in-house fighting rocking the federation would be resolved.
