Archery has future in Nigeria sports - NAF President By Amaechi Agbo President, Nigeria Archery Federation, NAF, Alhaji Mohammed Baba Abdullahi has disclosed that archery sport has a brighter future in Nigeria and has come to stay, Bestchoicesports can report. The president stated this at the closing ceremony of the NAF training workshop held at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Package B, National Stadium, Abuja today Abdullahi thanked states, institutions and security agencies as well as private individuals who participated in the workshop. “Archery has a brighter future in Nigeria sports and it has come to stay. I want to thank you all for participating actively in this workshop. We look forward to other workshops as we work towards consolidating the achieved events of this event Also speaking, Presdient, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, commended the NAF president for his efforts in charting a new course for archery and called on the participants to make the best use of the knowledge they have acquired to improve the game especially at the grassroots level. “Archery is a sports I have interest in so when the president called me, I made it a necessity to be here and I am encouraged by your enthusiasm. “I want to commend the President for the good job he is doing, he needs to consolidate it. I cannot thank you all enough for your interest in archery. “We are pace setters now going by the large number of participants in the workshop. In next year and couple of years to come, Nigeria archery will participate in international events and we are counting on you,” he said. On his part, President, Nigeria Shooting Federation, NSF, Brig Gen Lonsdale Adeoye (rtd) said “shooting sports is synonymous with archery. Archery is the oldest sport in the whole word and today we are marking a new sphere in archery. We are building a new range at Area 10 for effective shooting and archery is part of it. If you are a shooter, you have to be committed and that is what you have displayed here during this workshop. “Nigerians await the impact of this workshop from you on the archery sport. Go to your various states and institutions and develop the sport, discover talents and groom them. Shooting and archery are similar because it is all about shooting at a target and shooting for sports,” he said. A total of 14 states and institutions including Nigeria Army, Navy, Air force, Road safety, Nigeria police, Civil Defence; Benue, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ogun state, Imo State, Plateau and Niger states and private participants. Highlights of the closing ceremony was a shooting demonstration and presentation of certificate of participation to the participants. Dignitaries that graced the occasion include AFN and NSF Presidents, AFN and NSF Presidents, Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, and Brig Gen Lonsdale Adeoye (rtd) in that order, among others.
