At Last, NPFL Kicks Off After 9-Month Break
By Editor
Never since the national league football began in the country in 1970s has there been a nine-month break.
The last season (2019/2020) ended abruptly and the start of the new season suffered series postponements – no thanks to the coronavirus pandemic which put all football and other sports in comatose.
This makes it three consecutive seasons since 2018 that the Nigeria Professional Football League has not been concluded on without hitches.
At last, the lead Nigerian football league commences this Sunday nationwide. This after the women's league, Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) entered week three.
Today, the Rivers United versus Enugu Rangers is easily the star match of the day while Uyo and Aba will have local derbies as Akwa United host Dakkada FC (formerly Akwa Starlets) and Enyimba host Abia Warriors.
In all, there will be 10 matches. The fixtures run thus:
IfeanyiUbah vs. Lobi Stars
Katsina United vs. Heartland
Rivers United vs. Enugu Rangers
Jigawa Golden Stars vs. Sunshine Stars
Akwa United vs. Dakkada FC
Plateau United vs. Kwara United
Kano Pillars vs. Adamawa United
