Athletics: First Diamond Season To Hold In UK

  By Sampson Adedeji Gateshead will host the first Diamond League fixture of the season on 23 May due to coronavirus restrictions in Morocco which are stopping the event from behind held at the International Mohammed VI stadium, capital city Rabat. Other changes to the 2021 calender season, will see the Diamond League meeting in Rome, initially scheduled for 4 June, will now be held on 10 June in Florence, while Oslo’s Bislett Games has moved back from 10 June to 1 July. Unlike in 2020, this year’s Wanda Diamond League will be a full, structured series in which athletes compete for a place in the Final and a shot at the Diamond Trophy. In the first 13 meetings, athletes will earn points in a bid to qualify for the Final in Zurich on September 8th and 9th, where they have the chance to be crowned Wanda Diamond League Champion in their chosen discipline. The 2021 calendar remains subject to further changes depending on the global health situation in the coming months.
