Austria's Maximilian Ends Nigeria Hope of Winning GSL Abuja Tennis Open By Niyi Busari Third (3rd) Dayak Tennis Open Champion, Maximilian Neuchrist has ended Nigeria hope of winning the GSL Tennis Open as he defeated the only surviving Nigerian tennis player Thomas Otu 6-3, 6-4. Otu, 24,the number two best tennis player in Nigeria, started the game on a poor note in the early part of the game, he however bounced back to win two minor sets. Thomas Otu has defeated his fellow Nigerian, Enosoregbe Clifford 4-6, 6-3. To qualify for the second round he also beat Indonesian Anurag Nenwani 7-5, 6-2. Speaking with www.bsnsports.com.ng, the quarter finalist, Maximilian said: "He was shaky in the early part of the game and failed to take advantage when hot weather made me weak. I did not expect him to play that well. He gave me the run for my money but experience help me out in the end. " I have to rest and to come back refreshed for the next game." Otu who looked sad after the game also spoke with our correspondent, "I did my best because I did not believe I can perform so well like this. We need to be exposed by competing in different international tennis competition which will help develop us in our game. " Our major challenge is that we don't have sponsor. Tennis is an expensive game where the players need sponsor for him to succeed." He urged the Nigerian Tennis Federation to organise a competition in which the top five players from the tournament will be sponsored in an international tennis competition. With this, we shall improve on our game and possibly win this tournament next years." Hon. Bekeakpo Etifa, Otu sponsor who promised to do everything within his power to exposed him to international tennis tournament across the globe. "He is talented, if we can support him, the sky will be his limit. The white guys are not better than him but because they are exposed and experienced than him was the advantage they had over him."
