AWCON 2018: Dennerby Retains Ajibade, 14 Other Home-based Players

Falcons' Coach Retains 15 Home-based Players Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has retained a total of 15 home-based players for the second phase of his camping programme towards next month’s Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana. [caption id="attachment_5947" align="alignnone" width="300"] Super Falcons[/caption] The team on Monday returned to their camp at Jubilee Chalets & Resort Epe, Lagos, but Dennerby had already cut the number of home-based players in order to make room for those coming from overseas for the last stage of preparations towards the 11th AWCON. The Swedish tactician allowed the players to feature for their respective clubs in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) at the weekend, but recalled only those he feels can give the foreign-based good fight for places and claim the trophy for the ninth time in 11 championships. Among those retained for the second phase are four goalkeepers, Tochukwu Oluehi, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Onyinyechukwu Okeke and Christy Ohiaeriaku. Others are Anam Imo, Rasheedat Ajibade, Peace Efih, Glory Ogbonna, Chioma Wogu, Alice Ogebe, Amarachi Okoronkwo and Chidinma Okeke. Also retained are Ugochi Emenayo, Sarah Nnodim and Nneka Julius. However, Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia defender, Christy Ucheibe was sent home from the Epe camp after copping a long term knee injury.
