AWCON 9th Title: Dangote, Abdulsalam Rabiu Donates N75m For Falcons By Nelly Robinson The Super Falcons of Nigeria arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja presenting the 9th Cup of the AWCON 2018 competition in Ghana to President Mohammadu Buhari. Receiving the Girls and the Trophy on arrival at the Airport, the Chief of Staff to Gen. Buhari Abba Kyari presented the sum of N75,000.00 million Naira from Aliko Dangote and Abdulsalam Rabiu to the Team in appreciation for their efforts in earning Nigeria the Title the 9th time. Kyari who assured the press that the President had good plans, gestures and intention towards the Girls emergence as African Champions says the Government is appreciative of the doggedness with which the Girls forth and finished tops beating Bayana Bayana of South Africa 4-3 to a penalty at the last match. “The President is away and he instructed me to come and welcome our Girls who have won the African Championship again so we are proud of them, we are very happy. They have said they are in the process of going to the World cup and they promise they are not just going to participate in the world cup they will go and bring it back once again so we should be happy. When the President comes, he is going to receive them” The Captain of the Team Rita Chikwelu and Onome Ebi co says it feels good to emerged winners again irrespective of the hurdle it took “though it’s not easy from the beginning but we thank God we completed our mission. We assure Nigerians we are not only going to the world cup to participate, we are going there to do well. The entire team, we are happy and we love each other” Onome said the tournament was a though one unlike what was obtainable 6 years ago. “Actually, when we started we didn’t do well because we didn’t have friendly games and we didn’t play together, I think that affected us. But after our 1st 2nd game, that’s when we know ahh, the Super Falcons are back. I really want us to be always together, at least friendly games that will help us in the world cup” Asisat Oshoala who came out as African Best Woman Footballer gave her take to her emergence “it was a great fight for the teams as everyone wanted to go to the World Cup, everything is really getting better now in Africa, you see a lot of good players and teams you don’t see teams loosing 6 7 nil anymore” Leader of the delegation and Head of women football at the NFF Ruth David says determination and team spirit gave the Super Falcons their Victory “ kind of never never say die until you see the end of it and knowing the super falcons they are gave us them the success” Also at the Airport arrival hall was Secretary General of NFF Dr. Mohammed Sanusi who says the lost of the Girls to south Africa at their opening match, never weighed the minds of the NFF Board down on what the Girls can do and insisted the Girls had adequate preparations before the competition “the down fall of a man is not the end of his Life, it was just a wakeup call. Now that we are going to the World Cup, basically we are going to prepare for the kind of team to play. People are just trying to create issues where there are no issues. The Head coach of the Team Thomas Dennerby says his happiness for the team success is more for the Girls and the People of Nigeria. He speaks on his plans for the world Cup “to win the world cup, it’s a tough goal for Nigeria at this level. But if we are able to come out of the group stage and get to the quarter finals, then my goal to come out with the first medal for this team will be realized. When it comes to attacking play, there are still so many things to work on hopefully now in 2019 we will have some good camps and something to work on it” He pointed notable facts of continues coming together to play, working on daily bases and more regular camps as the bases for European dominance of the world cup winning. Youngest player of the Super Falcons Rashidat Adewale says mixing up with good quality players have helped her development even having her debut goal.
