AWCON Qualifier: We Will Shock Nigeria Again - Mercy Tagoe By Sampson Adedeji With few months to the start of the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations qualifier (AWCON), head coach of Black Queen of Ghana Mercy Tagoe said they are set to shock Nigeria's Super Falcons again, BSNSports.com.ng can reports. To the surprise of everyone, Ghana defeated Nigeria at the 2018 WAFU tournament in Cote d'Ivoire and the coach is already banking on that experience to achieve the much needed victory in the qualifier. Current African champion were pitched against Ghana in draw conducted in March 2021. While speaking with FIFA, Tagoe said they are working round the clock to ensure a total victory in the upcoming game. “We always keep in mind that Nigeria are the African champions, so there is no room for complacency. “Aside from the technical and tactical aspect of training, we are doing a lot of psychological exercises. I did the same routine at the WAFU Zone B tournament in Côte d’Ivoire in 2018, and Ghana beat Nigeria for the first time at that event,” she told FIFA. Loser in the qualifier will automatically be out of the 2023 Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as semi finalists of AWCON in 2022 will represent Africa in the tournament.
