AWCON Qualifiers: NFF Confirms Agege Stadium Vs Gambia

By Niyi Busari Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi said Agege Township stadium also known as The Soccer Temple will now be the match venue for the Super Falcons home game against Gambia in the African Women Nations Cup qualifiers, following complaints by other national team coaches over the poor quality of the pitch at U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, which had initially been earmarked to host the game. Sanusi further said the change of venue was also due to a follow-up report by the NFF technical department on the state of the Canaan City stadium’s pitch. He also stated that the Super Falcons will be given adequate attention by providing all the needed logistics for the two matches and the NFF have already sent flight tickets to the 10 foreign-based players invited for the match. “We want all our national teams to qualify for all competitions and we must provide good pitches for them. “The Flying Eagles managed to qualify for the next stage and if you watched the game, you will agree with me that the pitch contributed to their outing. “Also we have consulted the Head Coach Thomas Dennerby before taking the decision which he has approved,” Sanusi submitted. Super Falcons will play Gambia in double header African Women Nations Cup qualifiers with the Nigerian women national team playing the first match away from home, while the home match comes up on 11th June 2018.
