Awoniyi Signs 5-Year Liverpool Contract Extension

Awoniyi
By Admin Liverpool have convinced the youngster into penning a new five-year deal at Anfield before being sent out on a two-year loan move to Ligue 1 club Monaco, BSN Sports reports. That was with Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City having all shown interest in the front-man, while Barcelona and Inter Milan also looked at signing the striker, who commits his future to Liverpool until 2023. Awoniyi joined Liverpool from Imperial Soccer Academy in August 2015 for a fee in the region of £400,000 following his impressive performances for Nigeria’s youth teams. But Awoniyi, who has six caps for Nigeria under-23s, has yet to even make a pre-season appearance for the Reds having failed to gain a UK work permit. That has seen the 20-year-old spend time on loan with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Royal Excel Mouscron – having enjoyed a strong season in Belgium last year. Awoniyi scored 10 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for First Division A outfit Mouscron to help them qualify for a Europa League play-off spot. And according to TEAMtalk the forward is to be loaned out to Monaco for two seasons despite interest from Nice – who recently appointed ex-Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira as manager. Liverpool hope that another spell abroad will help Awoniyi’s chances of gaining a work permit in order to force his way into the first-team reckoning on Merseyside, with the player viewed as one who can make an impact in years to come.
