B&E Matchplay: Olapade, Kwame share 36 hole lead as Oboh makes history on African Tour

Kwame Ligbidi and Olapade Sunday both earned a two stroke lead with sizzling performance's by the duo at the halfway stage of the B&E Tournament in Lakowe on Wednesday.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the golf tournament which teed off at the prestigious Lakowe Lakes Golf Course in Lekki on Tuesday is expected to end on Friday.

Edwin Osuhor, Tournament Director of the African Tour, said Ghana’s Kwame had a colorful scorecard with no blemish.

"He opened his round with a par, and followed that with a birdie on the second hole carding a one_under 35 on the front nine.

"He made the turn and fired off four more birdies to improve on his forgettable first round 73 finishing the second round with a 67," he said.

Osuhor said the defending champion Olapade on the other hand finished one of  the best round of the day, to move into a share of the lead.

"The 2018 winner, also came back from a one_over par in Round 1.

"He shot five-under 67 to sit joint  1st on the leaderboard at four_under par.

"The hit man was close to taking an outright lead but was only able to settle for a tie after a costly bogey on the 12th," he said.

The tournament director noted that Solomon Ideriah, the 18-hole leader, struggled to a one_under  second round which some him slip down the leader board.

"He dropped all the way from first to tie for 3rd at two-under  alongside Zimbabwe's Visitor Mapwanya who also carded a five_under 67.

"However, Ghana’s Vincent Torgah  lingered just four shots off the pace alongside veteran golfer Emos Korblah heading into the moving day of the tournament.

NAN also reports that Torgah's tee-shots has been consistently good through the two previous events before the B & E Matchplay.

Osuhor noted that the 2018 Masters champion and Tour's number one player on the Order Of Merit Ranking hasn't had it right with his drives in the first and second round.

He however said that his putting of late has propelled him back into the conversation and now tied for fifth at Even_par after 36 holes at the Lakowe Golf course.

He added that Nigeria's teenage female golf sensation Georgia Oboh made history by being the first lady to make the cut on the Tour.

" Oboh the lone female professional player on the field  also made the cut at eleven_over par, creating yet another history.

"The Nigeria female golf sensation Georgia Oboh now holds the record of the first female player to make the cut at an African Tour event, and that she accomplished at the age 18," he said. (NAN)
