Bamboo Towers Set To Host Rumble In The Jungle Chess Tourney By Our Reporter The Chess League Ibadan in conjunction with Bamboo Towers Chess Club is set to organize a one-day chess event tagged "Rumble In The Jungle" to mark the International Chess day. The one day Rapid Chess Tournament event will hold on Saturday July 24, 2021 at the Bamboo Towers Chess Club, Conoil Complex, Amusement Park, Bodija, Ibadan. The event is made for all chess players and will feature three prize winning categories which are the Open, the female and the U-16. According to the Chairman of the Ibadan Chess League, Mr Iredele Ogubayo, "the tournament is being held in commemoration of International Chess day which takes place July 20 every year." "However, this year's tournament coincides with the Salah festivities, thus the hosting of the event on Saturday, July 24." Iredele, who is the incoming chairman of the Oyo State Chess Association added that the Chess League Ibadan in conjuction with the Oyo State Chess Association and the Oyo State Sports Council has done a lot in taking the game to greater heights in the state hence the event is also part of the Chess League’s effort at creating awareness for chess in the state. "A key objective is to encourage children to play chess as it has been proven to help with child’s development in the area of pattern recognition, critical thinking, logical reasoning, concentration and problem solving,” Iredele concluded. The event which sponsored by the Director of Bamboo Towers Chess Club, Chief Ayobanji Ayoola is expected to feature sport administrators in the state and Nigeria's foremost chess players. The General Manager, Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Adegboyega Makinde, immediate past President of the Nigeria Chess Federation, Mr Lekan Adeyemi, Nigeria's chess Olympiad Individual Gold medalist, International Master (IM) Odion Aikhoje, Nigeria’s Fide Master (FM) Adegboyega Adebayo and Nigeria’s current female National Champion, Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Deborah Akintoye, are all expected to grace the occasion.
