The last group game is important to both teams in their campaign for promotion to the 2018/19 NPFL season. Before the match in Benin, 3sc are on top of the table with 28 points closely followed by Bendel Insurance in the second position with 26 points. Bendel Insurance need a win at home to edge out 3sc with a point and claim the top spot. NNL management had announced that two top teams from four groups will play a super 8 game in a round robin format where the top four teams automatically qualify to play in the 2018/19 NPFL season but there were rumours that the Super 8 competition may not hold. Unconfirmed reports have it that only the top teams in each (4) group/s may finally be tipped by the league management to gain promotion to the elite league which is proposed to start on December 1st 2018.
