Bendel Insurance Vs 3sc NNL Match Abandoned, Postponed
By Niyi Busari
The rivalry between two of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Bendel Insurance and Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan continued on Sunday in their Nigeria National League rescheduled game as both teams needed the game to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2018/19 NPFL season, BSN Sports reports.
Mutiu Olawale's two minutes well taken free kick shot that beat Bendel Insurance goalkeeper was enough to separate both teams in the first half as the Oluyole Warriors held on to the lead till the centre referee sounded his whistle signalling the end of the first stanza of the tension soaked match.
www.bsnsports.com.ng understands that heavy downpour at the University of Benin stadium forced the centre referee to call for the abandonment and Postponement of the game due to heavy downpour which is slated for 9am Monday morning.
The last group game is important to both teams in their campaign for promotion to the 2018/19 NPFL season.
Before the match in Benin, 3sc are on top of the table with 28 points closely followed by Bendel Insurance in the second position with 26 points.
Bendel Insurance need a win at home to edge out 3sc with a point and claim the top spot. NNL management had announced that two top teams from four groups will play a super 8 game in a round robin format where the top four teams automatically qualify to play in the 2018/19 NPFL season but there were rumours that the Super 8 competition may not hold.
Unconfirmed reports have it that only the top teams in each (4) group/s may finally be tipped by the league management to gain promotion to the elite league which is proposed to start on December 1st 2018.
