Blessing Okagbare Obtains Masters Degree from Texas Tech University By Uche Dozie Nigerian Track Queen, Blessing Okagbare has obtained a masters degree from the University of Texas Tech on Friday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The 200 metres specialist who is one of the graduating students in different discipline bagged her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. The Nigerian champ's achievement will be featured at the convocation ceremony and this delights her. "It wasn't just the GPA that drew their attention, it was the grace of God... I am deeply honored that my Story was chosen amongst others to be shared live today at the Commencement Ceremony" She said in a tweet on Friday. With a Bachelor's Degree acquired, Okagbare pushed for her Masters after winning her first Olympic medal. “When I won my first Olympic medal, I was 19 and a sophomore at the University of Texas at El Paso,” Okagbare said. “Honestly, I was this naive girl who didn't know what she really wanted to do. I was just so happy to represent my country, and on as big a stage as the Olympics. I could compete, I could be a professional athlete and I could serve my country. That was so exciting for me. When I got the medal, it started to dawn on me there is more to this than just being happy about it. This is a talent I really need to build on.” She told today.ttu.edu. Okagbare who chose a self-designed course intends to use the degree to make a difference in the sports world. “I love track and field, I love a little bit of politics, and I love anything that gets me connected to people,” Okagbare said. “So, when I come out of sports as a professional athlete, I don't want anything that will take me too far away from what I love and I have a passion for. “Another thing was, there's so much in the sport I feel needs to be better. It doesn't need to be changed completely, but it needs to be better. So, just being an athlete for years and with all the experience I have, I chose sports marketing so if I decide to be I want to be a great marketer, I will be able to do that.” The World Championship gold medalist said.
