Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Sevilla: Halaand double send hosts to quarter finals

  Borussia Dortmund sailed to the quarter finals of the Champions League on a 5-4 aggregate against Sevilla following their 2-2 draw on Tuesday night. The tie was expected to be cagey and it proved just that three minutes into the game when Dortmund keeper Hitz so nearly passed the ball straight to En-Nesyri but it made it through to Can. The German though gave it away to Ocampos, who cut infield to send in a decent shot that Hitz punched away. Sevilla who were trailing heading into the game had the earlier tempo with Oscar Rodriguez being the other player to come close in the first ten minutes with the player missing a sumptuous cross to put his side leveled in the tie. Dortmund defended deep in numbers in the earlier exchanges with the likes of Halaand forced to track back and help the home side defence but each time they found a chance to break, they looked dangerous. Sevilla were made to pay for their missed chances in the 35th minute when Erling Halaand put the home side into the lead. The Spanish side began a casual passing out from the back, starting with Bono, and continued forward where Delaney and Suso left it for each other with the former barreling in to send it squirting away from them both. Dahoud took an advantage of the confusion to send the ball to his captain Reus, who drew the keeper and tuck it inside to Haaland, who made no mistake. The goal making the Norwegian become the youngest ever player to score in six consecutive UEFA Champions League appearances Halaand continued with where he left in the first half when he was to tuck the back past Bono in the Sevilla goal and while they had celebrated the double three minutes after the resumption, the goal was chopped off by VAR as he was judged to have fouled Fernando in the process of scoring. But while the goal didn’t stand, VAR replays showed that Koundé had tugged Haaland’s shirt as a cross came into the box, a minute or so before the “goal” with the home side handed the penalty. Up stepped Halaand to take the kick but his effort was pushed out by the keeper. The drama wasn’t to end there with Dortmund handed another penalty with the keeper having been adjudged to have been off his life before the Halaand effort; the Norwegian stepped up again to tuck in his second effort to double Dortmund’s lead. En-Nesyri pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 69th minute as Sevilla threatened to pull a comeback with the same player adding another in the dying minutes of the game for a tense finish but Dortmund held on to sail through the quarters.
