Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has named seven players likely to play a role for Nigeria against Brazil’s Selecao on Sunday, October 13, at the National Stadium in Singapore.
The friendly which will pair the three-time African champions against the South American giants will be the cynosure of all eyes when the encounter holds next month.
Speaking with The Nations SportingLife Nigeria, Rohr, who is expected to unveil his squad for the game in the coming days, hinted that the likes of William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina, Jamilu Collins and the three shot-stoppers - Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Maduka Okoye that were invited will likely make the cut again.
On the other hand, the pair of Benfica's Tyronne Ebuehi and team captain Ahmed Musa will miss out from the glamorous tie, with the former Kano Pillars star yet to play for his Saudi Arabia side since he cropped an injury against Al-Fateh on August 30 during a league fixture.
''Most of the players who played against Ukraine like the vice-captain of the team Troost Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina, Jamilu Collins, Francis Uzoho, and the other two goalkeepers will be recalled to battle against Brazil.
''Some of these players will be invited again now to play against Brazil because they did so well against Ukraine,” Rohr was quoted as saying.
Interestingly, in this month’s FIFA world rankings, the Selecao and Super Eagles dropped one spot each to placed 3rd and 34th respectively.
A statement on Brazil Football Federation official Twitter handle on Friday, September 20, revealed that coach Tite opted for stars that ply their trade in top European clubs that include PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool for their forthcoming fixtures against African giants – Senegal’s Teranga Lions and Nigeria’s Super Eagles billed for October 10 and October 13 respectively.
