BREAKING: Amusan Runs 7.94 Seconds To Place Second In Karlsruhe, Germany

Reigning African Games 100m hurdles champion Tobiloba Amusan ran 7.94 seconds to place second behind Finland’s Neziri Nooralotta (7.92 seconds) in the 60m hurdles race in Karslruhe, Germany Friday evening, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The Nigerian had earlier won her heat in 8.01 seconds and was tipped as favourite to repeat her feat of barely a year earlier when she raced to a new 7.84 seconds personal best to win ahead of Christina Clemons of the USA (7.98) while Nooralotta was a distant sixth (8.03 seconds). This time however, the petite Nigerian played the second fiddle as it were as she failed to hold on to her marginal lead in the final metres, allowing Nooralotta who also ran 8.01 seconds to win the second heat to race ahead, running a new personal best to win. Amusan still remains the second fastest Nigerian nay African woman over the distance behind Gloy Alozie who ran 7.82 seconds in February 1999 in Madrid, Spain. Last Sunday the Nigerian trio of Blessing Okagbare, Divine Oduduru and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi competed in the inaugural American Track League event, a Silver level meeting on the expanded World Athletics Indoor Tour in Fayetteville, USA. Okagbare ran a new 7.17 seconds personal best to win the race held at the Randal Tyson Indoor Center, Fayetteville while the duo of Oduduru and Enekwechi came second in their respective events. Oduduru, fifth on the Nigerian indoor list ran 6.65 seconds to come second behind Trayvon Bromell of the USA (6.48). Enekwechi was the second best thrower in the field on a day USA’s Ryan Crouser sets a new 22.82 world indoor best. The Nigerian threw 20.65 seconds to top the African and Nigerian list for the season. He is second behind Stephen Mozia (21.11m) in the Nigerian all-time list albeit he has also thrown above the 21m mark indoors.
