CAA Region II: Team Nigeria Male and Female Take First Gold Medals In 800m By Uche Dozie Team Nigeria finally got their CAA Region II Championship in the Ahmadu Bello University Sports Complex Zaria Kaduna to a start after getting gold medals in the 800 metres events in the male and female category, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Verity Umaru started Team Nigeria's dominance at the event by winning the Women's 800m ahead of a Nigerien and a Nigerian. Umaru finished with a time of 2:23.57 to beat Chamsiya Yahays of Niger with a time of 2:34.16 to claim silver and fellow compatriot Mariama Ibrahim in 2:34.91 to receive bronze. Salisu Habibu made it two out of two after winning the Men's 800m event. The Undergraduate of Ahamdu Bello University, used his long strides and his home advantage to create an unattainable lead. He clocked 1:54.95 time to finish first ahead of Seyni Ibrahim of Niger with silver and Jonathan Iomah of Liberia who took bronze.
