CAF Cancels 2020 African Women's Cup of Nations, Launches Champions League

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has canceled the 2020 African Women's Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This was announced at the CAF Executive Committee meeting held via video-conference to discuss the future of competitions and other related issues following Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations, officially known as the Total Women's Africa Cup Of Nations, was supposed to be the 12th edition of the Africa Women Cup of Nations. The biennial international football championship organised by the CAF was scheduled to start in November and end 12th December, 2020 with 12 African nations in contention for the title.

CAF said the tournament was cancelled due to rampaging Covid 19.

"Due to challenging conditions, the 2020 edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations has been canceled.

CAF however, announced launching of the maiden African Women's Champions League in 2021.

"Meanwhile, the CAF Women's Champions League will be launched in 2021. The format and other details will be communicated in due course."
