Nigeria’s only representative left on the continent, Enyimba of Aba, have endured a tough period in the last few week, travelling, playing on the continent and in the Aiteo cup, now their next stop in the CAF Confederations Cup at home in their new Aba stadium.
Despite emerging from rigorous Aiteo Cup group fixtures, Enyimba chief coach Usman Abdʼallah is optimistic the club will take a favourable result from the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg tie against Raja De Casablanca in Aba today.
Abdʼallah bemoaned the hectic schedule of the Aiteo Cup group stage but pointed out he is making the best of the situation he found himself.
His words; “We played against Rayon Sports on Sunday. Then we left for Gombe on Monday and arrived Tuesday.
“Then we played three Aiteo Cup matches between Wednesday and Friday. And on Saturday we left for Enugu and arrived Aba on Sunday. This is very tedious.
“It is commendable that we still managed to top the group. I had to intelligently rotate. the squad to get results from Aiteo because it is also our priority and preserve players for the Raja game. It wasnʼt easy but it is what we are paid to do and we have to give it our best.
“We had to return to training on Monday and we had two sessions on Tuesday to reassess the boys and know who is good to go.
Playing three consecutive days wasnʼt the best schedule. It is even more difficult because we also want to win the Aiteo”. He is optimistic his boys will pick a good result in Aba so as to make the second leg easier.
“I donʼt enter any game without the intention of winning. To qualify for the final, we have to win well in Aba. We will do everything within our reach to do that”, he added. Is he promising to deliver the elusive CAF Confederation Cup?
His reply; “We will take it one step at a time. We are in the semi-final now. The task is to qualify for the final. Then we take it from there. But we will keep working hard”.
Raja Casablanca are are already in Nigeria, and are ready to face Enyimba. They are also talking tough, playing the mind game.
