CAF CC Wrap: Raja Becomes First Team To Book Quarter-Finals Ticket As Enyimba Stumbled In Algeria

  Raja Club Athletic became the first team to book a quarter final slot in the Total CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-0 victory away to last year’s losing finalists Pyramids in Egypt took them to 12 points and top of Group D on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Congolese duo of Ben Malango and Fabrice Ngoma handed the Green Eagles a 2-0 half time lead before on-form Soufiane Rahimi scored the third, picking their fourth successive win of the group phase. With two rounds of matches, no team can catch up with them with Pyramids and Nkana both on six points set to face each other. Still in Group D, Nkana moved to six points, same as Egypt’s Pyramids and three less than leaders Raja of Morocco, while Namungo became the first side to be eliminated as they remained pointless after their fourth successive defeat. In the group still, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 away in Dar es Salaam last weekend, this Sunday in Ndola, Nkana had their second victory over Namungo in seven days, as the Tanzanian debutants crashed out of the group stages. In Algeria, hosts ES Setif thumped Enyimba 3-0 to revive their quarter final hopes. The victory took them to four points, but remained bottom of Group A though they are on level terms with Al Ahly Benghazi. Nigeria’s Enyimba remained second with six points, two behind leaders Orlando Pirates who won 3-0 earlier in the day against Benghazi. Earlier in the day, South African side Orlando Pirates dominated Libyan outfit Al Ahly Banghazi, winning by a 3-0 scoreline on Sunday to move to eight points in Group A of the Total CAF Confederation Cup. Meanwhile Cameroon’s Coton Sport consolidated their grip on 2020-21 Total CAF Confederation Cup Group B top spot, thrashing Zambia’s NAPSA Stars 5-1 in Garoua on Sunday afternoon. With 9 points, four more than closest rivals Algeria’s JS Kabylie and five more than holders RS Berkane of Morocco they confidently lead the group. At the Stade du 1er Novembre in Tizi Ouzou, hosts JS Kabilye played to a goalless draw with defending champions RS Berkane of Morocco. The draw sees Kabilye remain second in the standings with six points while the holders are a point below them at third. Meanwhile, in a Group C match, home side Sfaxien came from two goals down, equalizing with a 93rd minute penalty to force out a 2-2 draw with fellow Tunisian side Etoile. Etoile had raced to a 2-0 lead with Ayman Sfaxi breaking the deadlock after 10 minutes. The visitors were in flowing form and they were 2-0 up after 31 minutes, Sfaxi turning from scorer to provide after laying up Wanda Kechrida for the second. But, the home side would come alive in the second half and turn the tide on Etoile. They halved the deficit in the 69th minute off an Azmi Ghouma goal and after scoring, the belief was finally there. They kept the pressure but had to wait till the third minute of added time to get a point off that match with Firas Chouat beating the keeper from 12 yards out.
