CAF Gives Associations Deadline On Leagues Resumption
By Sampson Adedeji
The Confederation of African Football has requested the continent’s national football associations inform it of their plans on whether to resume or postpone their local league seasons, in order to allow it to decide whether or not to reschedule the 2019-2020 continental season.
All professional football activities on the continent have been suspended due to the spread of the pandemic.
On 11 April, CAF said it would postpone the matches of both the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup indefinitely.
Local media reports revealed that CAF has sent letters to the football associations on the continent, requesting their decisions on whether to cancel or continue with their current domestic seasons.
The letter, which was published by media on Tuesday, was sent on 26 April, and states that CAF will be waiting for the associations’ replies by 5 May, in order to have the suitable time to prepare the schedule for the new season.
CAF has also requested the details of each association’s strategy in the case of either cancellation or rescheduling of the league and cup competitions.
