After much deliberations at the CAF Congress held at the Marriott hotel in Cairo, the body has agreed to increased the number of participating teams in the African Women Cup of Nations from 8 to 12 teams, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Eight teams took part in the last edition held in Ghana with Nigeria's Super Falcons emerging champions for a record 9th time.

Despite increasing the number of participating teams to 12, host of the next editions of the competition is yet to be known after Congo pull out of the hosting right.

Congo pull out of the hosting rights last week through Sports Ministry in the country citing financial inadequacy.

The next edition is slated for 2020 in a venue that will be announce later.
