CAFCL: Akpeyi named in Kaizer Chiefs squad for Primeiro de Agosto clash

CAFCL:
Nigeria and Kaizer Chief shot-stopper, Daniel Akpeyi has been included in the teams travelling squad for the CAF Champions League clash against Primeiro de Agosto, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune will be absent for the tie. Amakhosi jetted out of OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday with an 18-man squad as they look to secure a place in the competition’s group stage for the first time in the club’s history, Complete Sports said. Akpeyi started the season as new coach Gavin Hunt’s second -choice shot-stopper but was later handed a starting berth after Khune committed back-to-back blunders in December. Meanwhile, a huge boost for The Glamour Boys’ hopes of obtaining a crucial result in Angola is that striker Samir Nurkovic has cracked the nod from the technical team after missing out the first three months of the season due to injury and internal issues. The current aggregate score of 0-0 means Chiefs will need to either win or record a scoring draw in order to advance on the away-goals rule. Alternatively, if the match ends goalless again, a penalty shootout will decide the winner. Chiefs’ full squad: Bruce Bvuma, Daniel Akpeyi, Erick Mathoho, Rama Mphahlele, Daniel Cardoso, Siya Ngezana, Philani Zulu, Kgotso Moleko, Darrel Matsheke, Happy Mashiane, Nkosi Ngcobo, Njabulo Blom, Bernard Parker, Leo Castro, Lazarous Kambole, Samir Nurkovic, Dumi Zuma, Khama Billiat.
