Wydad last week defeated 'the Brazilian' 2-1 in the first leg of the semi final played in Casablanca and held out for a goalless draw (0-0) to secure 2-1 aggregate win. Mamelodi Sundown required to score at least a goal to progress into the final but their were frustrated by well-organised Wydad defence line. Super Eagles midfielder Michael Babatunde was introduced in the second stanza and contributed to the club progress to the final though he missed a sitter that would have being the decider before the final whistle. Wydad knocked out Sundowns in 2017 quarterfinal when they went on to win the competition, finished ahead of Sundowns in 2018 group-stage and have now knocked them out in the semi-final. Meanwhile, Esperance will play in the final of the competition for the second consecutive time after they defeated TP Mazembe 1-0 on aggregate, first which was played last week ended 0-0. Former Kano Pillars striker Junior Lokosa played no part in the keenly contested encounter. The first leg of the final is scheduled for May 24/25 with Wydad hosting the first leg. Second leg is fixed for Tunis on May 30/ 1st of June.
