CAFCL: CAS Rejects Wydad Appeal, Esperance Remain Champions

By Sampson Adedeji

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected Moroccan giant's Wydad Casablanca’s appeal against CAF and Esperance de Tunis.

The case was over the controversial 2019 CAFCL final which saw the second leg abandoned after Wydad refused to resume play after a stoppage in the second half following a VAR mishap.

CAF ruled against Wydad and declared Esperance champions of the elite continental competition. CAF also fined the Moroccan side $35,000 USD.

Nearly a year ago, Wydad took the case for appeals to CAS, but the court rejected the appeal on Friday.
