CAFCL Fallout: Disciplinary committee upheld CAS decision, Espearance confirms champion

After hours of deliberations by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Disciplinary Committee about the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports to reverse the replay order by CAF in the Champions league second leg match between Esperance of Tunisia and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, the body has upheld the decision, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The committee today (Wednesday) in Cairo overruled Wydad protest and confirmed Esperance as the winner of the competition over the two legs.

The decision of the committee read:

The Wydad Athletic Club: is considered to have lost the game in the Final 2nd leg, a fine of 20,000 USD (Twenty Thousand US Dollars) is imposed on the club for the abandonment of the match and a fine of 15,000 USD (Fifteen Thousand US Dollars) is imposed for the use of flares by the supporters.

Club EST: a reminder is sent to Mr. Mohamed Meddeb, President of Club EST, to fine him 20,000 USD (Twenty Thousand US Dollars) for his unsporting behavior against the President of CAF, EST will play their next two (2) home interclub matches matches behind closed for the excessive use of smoke and firecrackers. However the Disciplinary Jury has decided to suspend the sanction in question provided that your club is not guilty of such an offense for the next twelve (12) months and to impose on the club IS a fine of 50,000 USD (Fifty thousand Dollars Americans) for the use of smoke and projectiles and the unsporting behavior of its supporters.

This means that Esperance have now successfully defended the trophy they won in 2017 .
