CAFCL Final fallout: CAF calls for emergency meeting

Following the crisis that rocked the final second leg of the CAF Champions League match between Esperance of Tunisia and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco on Friday night, Confederation of Africa football has called for an emergency meeting, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The match was stopped deep into the second half with host Esperance leading by a lone goal after the centre referee Papa Gassama disallowed goal scored by Wydad.

The away side decided not to continue the game after the centre referee failed to consult VAR for clarification, having used same VAR to cancel their goal scored at home in the first leg of the two-legged final.

The African soccer governing boy led by Ahmad Ahmad has slated the meeting for Tuesday, 4th of June. Top on the agenda will see Congress looking into the issue of VAR ahead of the African Nations Cup slated for Egypt.

Despite controversy surrounding the final match, the win by the Tunisian giant means that Esperance are the champion for the 2018/19 season having won 2-1 on aggregate.
