Cameroon to Wait For CAF Final Decision on AFCON Hosting

Cameroon
By Admin The CAF Executive Committee is skeptical about Cameroon’s readiness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and have set a November date for a final decision to be taken on the matter. Cameroon were awarded the rights to host the continent’s biggest football showpiece event during the CAF leadership of Issa Hayatou – the former CAF President – but there are doubts the Central African country can pull it off after all. After a two-day meeting in Egypt, the CAF Executive Committee published a progress report on several of the Confederation’s competitions coming up between 2018 and 2021; including next year’s AFCON. On the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nation in Cameroon, stated that “A visual report revealed a significant delay as far as the delivery of infrastructures is concerned.” Concerns were also raised about the security situation in parts of the Country. Thus, the Committee agreed that: i.The final decision will be taken in late November after the last inspection visit which will involve audit firm Roland Berger. ii. Beforehand, a joint CAF and FIFA Committee will travel to Cameroon in October to study security issues. The Africa Cup of Nations with its new-24 team format will be held from 15 June to 13 July 2019.
