Championship: Akpom Set For England Return
By Sampson Adedeji
English championship side, Middlesbrough, are closing in on Nigeria-born, ex-Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, according to reports emerging from Greece on Wednesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 24-year-old currently plays for PAOK and led the line in their impressive victory over Benfica in the Champions League qualifying stages on Tuesday night.
Having also knocked out Besiktas, PAOK are now just one stage away from reaching the Champions League groups and will play Russian club Krasnodar over two legs later this month, but are reportedly willing to let Akpom go with claims that a deal has been agreed.
Akpom remains the number one target for Middlesbrough head coach, Neil Warnock.
Akpom, a former England Under-21 international, played 12 times for the Gunners, and has Championship experience having spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Hull City. He also had stints with Coventry and Brighton.
He headed for Greece to join PAOK two years ago and has scored 14 goals in 28 league starts.
