The former Arsenal striker has represented England at the youth level following through u-16 to u-21, but made up his mind to switch allegiance to represent his father's land.

The 24 year old said he’s willing to give it all it takes to impress the Coach in a bid for him to be a force to reckon with in the super eagles attack and he also said he needs to play regularly for his club.

“I just pledged my international allegiance to Nigeria and it definitely motivates me to try and press and play every game for my club and help the team as much as possible to get in the (Nigeria) national team because that’s how I’m going to do it,” Akpom was quoted in an interview by Foxsports.

“Firstly, I have to fight for my club to get on that team. It’s not going to be easy because there are many young players but I’m up to the challenge and I hope that I would be selected soon. I’m ready to help the national team.’ He concluded.

Akpom joined PAOK Salonika in 2018, and he helped the team win the Greek cup final in 2019 by scoring the only goal; he also won with them their first super league title in 34 years. Altogether he has scored 5 goals in 18 games for the club.
