Commissioner of Sports Set To Fulfill 3SC's 22-Year Failed Promise

The demand for fulfilment of a promise of rewards made to the Shooting Stars Sports Club squad which won double titles in 1998 is being looked into by the present administration under Governor Seyi Makinde and will be addressed with time.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Honourable Seun Fakorede gave this assurance exclusively to BCOS Sports Crew.

The Sports Commissioner said Governor Seyi Makinde would not want any worker in the state to be denied of his entitlements and so will seriously address it.

It would be recalled that the Military Governor of Oyo State in 1998 Com-Pol Amen Oyakhire had promised to give each member of the Shooting Stars Sports (3SC) squad which won both the domestic league title and the West Africa Football Union Cup in the year, a plot of land and about one million naira as rewards of their feat.

However, the promise is yet to be fulfilled twenty two years after.

And in March 2020, the Chairman of the 1998 3SC set, Chief Bode Oyewole wrote a letter to the Governor Seyi Makinde through the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, to demand for the fulfilment of the promise made to his team twenty two years ago.

Featuring on the BCOS TV's Saturday Breakfast Sports Show at the weekend, the Oyo State Sports Commissioner acknowledged the receipt of the letter.

Honourable Fakorede assured that he would look into the matter but asked to be given time to address it.

"Yes, I saw the letter written by the Chairman of 1998 3SC set. And I am looking into it as Governor Makinde doesn't want anybody to be denied of his entitlements. But it should be realised that the promise to reward the team was made twenty two years ago. And I don't know why previous administrations refused to fulfill the promise. Therefore I need time to look into the matter meticulously and address it", the sports commissioner said.
