Comoros coach resigned after eight years of being in charge of Coelacanths

Comoros National Team coach Amir Abdou has resigned as head coach of the side after guiding them to their very first AFCON appearance in Cameroon where he led the Coelacanths to a round of 16 finish, BSNSports.com.ng gathered. Amir Abdou masterminded the rise of the tiny Comoros Islands in African football after eight years of being in charge of the Comoros Football National team. Abdou, 49, had been coach since January 2014 and taken the tiny Indian Ocean Island from near the bottom of the FIFA rankings to a place in the last-16 of the Africa Cup of Nations finals last month. Abdou said he felt there was a need for change at the helm of the team, made up almost exclusively of players born in France of Comorian heritage. Born in Marseille, France on 8 July 1972, Abdou started his coaching career early with the youth ranks. In January 2014, while coaching French 6th tier side Golfech Saint Paul, he was appointed as Comoros coach, to start a long journey that reached its fairytale climax February. Comoros were ranked 198 out of 207 members at the start of 2014 but are now 131 in the latest FIFA standings. Ghana will not forget this man easily after his side beat the Black Stars 3-2 at the AFCON.
