Congress Rejects Jalla's Stepping Down As NANF President - Baribote

Former second-vice president of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Victor Baribote has said that the Congress of National Association of Nigeria Footballers, NANF, has mandated its president, Harrison Jalla to continue in his leadership position, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Jalla during reconciliation meeting with the factional Players' Union, National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) stepped down as the president of the National Association of Nigeria Footballers (NANF) to allow the two bodies merged into one.

Reacting to the reconciliatory meeting, Baribote, an Executive Committee member of NANF, appreciated the move stated that Jalla lacked the power to pronounce his stepping down as president, he added that the Congress who voted him as the president is the only one who can pronounce such.

In his words: "We appreciate those who facilitated the move and we know that coming together is the best thing for now but it must be done appropriately.

"Until the Congresses of the two bodies come together and agree on some issues surrounding our coming together as a body.

"We are ready to embrace the reconciliation which we are doing but until both parties reach a conclusion and of course the two bodies have their own congress. Their congresses must come together and agree. It is at that point that one will now drop for one or whether we are going for fresh election. That is where we can decide.

It us (Congress) that elected Jalla as president, so, he cannot decide on his own. Until the Congress remove Jalla, he is still the president of NANF because you cannot give what you don't have. The congress is the one to decide for him whether to step down or not. And until then, he still remain the president of NANF." He concluded.
