Champions Morocco Withdraw From CHAN 2020
By Admin
Following the COVID-19 Pandemic, reigning champions Morocco have cancelled their CHAN 2020 camp and have withdrawn from the competition.
On Wednesday March 11, CAF issued a statement stating that all its competitions will go on behind closed doors despite the Coronavirus Pandemic situation.
This stance seems contradicting to their prior decision of suspending the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers just few days ago.
The 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) should kick off 4th of April 2020 until 25th of April 2020 in Cameroon.
The Africa giants, Morocco announced their decision and have already written to the Confederation of African Football over the matter.
Morocco were drawn in Group C with Uganda, Togo and Rwanda.
It’s worth mentioning that On 15th of March, hosting country Cameroon reported their fifth case of Coronavirus, not only this but 12 out of the supposedly participating 16 countries have reported cases of Coronavirus as well. Remaining countries are Mali, Uganda , Zambia & Zimbabwe.
With the aforementioned situation given, CAF are currently assessing the situation to decide whether to proceed without spectators or announce suspension.
