Covid-19: NFF Halts Football Activities Till April 14

Nigeria has joined the rest of the world particularly African countries who have stopped football activities in their countries due to outbreak of Corona virus around the World.

The suspension of all football activities came few days after the federal government through Minister of Youth and sports Honourable Sunday Dare suspended 2020 National Sports festival indefinitely, BSN Reports

The coronavirus has diffused in several countries causing some countries to suspend their footballing activities.

As the World Health Organization classified the virus as a pandemic, many countries across the world have been taking precautionary measures.

Nigeria to take their decision after the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country reached eight, with five tested positive on Wednesday.

“The Nigeria Football Federation has announced the cessation of all forms of football activities in the country for the next four weeks, as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic,” An NFF statement read.

“According to the country’s supreme football-governing body, the shutdown affects all on-field activities the various national teams, the Nigeria Professional Football League, the other Leagues, youth football programmes and even street football.”

“President of the NFF, Mr Amaju Melvin Pinnick said the cessation will be for four weeks after which the situation will be reviewed in line with events and trends worldwide.”

Nigeria joined a long list of African countries that suspended their football-related activities, including Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Botswana, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Kenya, Ghana, Guinea, and Gabon.
