Covid-19: NFF Prioritises Spending On Eagles, Falcons

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has said that it will have to focus more on the two senior national teams competitions this year, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The NFF on Friday made this disclosure on Friday saying that the federation must cut down its expenditure to match with the income expected for the budget of 2020.

This follows fall in income and revenue from sponsors and federal government following the lockdown brought about by Covid-19 pandemic that brings the world economy into its knee.

“In line with these new realities, the Federation will prioritise programmes, activities and competitions in which to partake, with the engagement of the senior teams being the fulcrum.

"The President and General Secretary are mandated to cut down expenses from all areas possible and enforce belt-tightening measures in the running of the Federation, to ensure the Federation operates only within the framework of guaranteed revenue,” it said in the statement.

Before the lockdown, the Nigeria U17 Women national team have thrashed their Guinean counterparts 6-1 in Conakry on Saturday March, 2020 in a first-round first leg game of the 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers. With this new development, it is yet to be known if the team will embark on the second slated for Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The Nigeria U20 women national team, the Falconets were sent home after two weeks in camp in preparation for the CAF World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso. The first leg of the two-legged match are yet to be played before it was postponed indirectly by CAF due to the ravaging covid-19. The NFF however, asked the coaches and players to leave for their various homes.
