Copa del Rey: Simon star as Levante edges Barcelona

It was a day to forget for Spanish La Liga league Barcelona as they suffered 2-1 defeat in the first leg of Spanish Copa del Rey against Levante.

Nigeria's Super Eagles winger Moses Simon was the star of the day as his pace continued to threaten Barcelona back line.

Eric Cabaco opened the scoring in the 4th minutes before Borjal Mayoral added the second goal for Levante in the 18th minutes to end the half 2-0.

The second stanza resumed with Barcelona trying to dominate the play but Levante stood their ground till 85th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Barcelona and was converted by Phillipe Coutinho.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of Levante with the return leg scheduled for Camp Nou next Thursday.
