Nigeria defender Leon Balogun is likely to miss the team’s opening 2018 World Cup tie with Croatia on Saturday following an injury.
A source close to the team told Complete Sports that Balogun did not train with his teammates in their last session on Thursday before they left for Kaliningrad where they will play against Croatia.
The centre-back who recently signed for Premier League club Brighton will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury as well as his availability for the game.
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr will likely draft in Kenneth Omeruo as replacement for the former FSV Mainz defender in case he is ruled out of the game.
Balogun struggled for fitness during the latter part of the Bundesliga season with Mainz due to injury.
