Cynosure Fc set Gold Cup record, qualify to semifinals with a game to spare By Mayuku Charles After going 3 games unbeaten and amassing maximum 9 points, Cynosure Fc have now set a record of becoming not just the first team to qualify for the 2018 Gold Cup semifinal, but also the only side yet to concede a goal in the tournament. It's an impressive record, of course, but how did the Centre of Attraction side achieve this feat? How they got there: Cynosure Fc began their campaign in the 2018 Gold Cup Tournament with a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars A sublime finish from Saviour Francis gave 2018 Southeast/South South preseason tournament champions a winning start as they beat Nigeria’s sole representative in next season’CAF Champions League Lobi Stars 1-0 at Akure Township Stadium on Friday. Even though Cynosure Fc on paper did not pose big threats to the reigning champions, Coach Ayodele Alexzandra Ayeni’s side had their moments and worked very hard to earn the win. It was a positive start for the Centre of Attraction side who continue their impressive run of form especially against NPFL sides. Up Next was another team which just recently represented Nigeria on the continent in CAF Club tournament, MFM Fc of Lagos State. In a match that saw Cynosure Fc giant-killing run put to test, the Centre of Attraction side stamped themselves as serious Gold Cup title contenders with an emphatic 2-0 win against MFM Fc of Lagos at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure. First half goals from Daberechi Ayanwu and Ibe Peters secured the win to keep the Coach Ayodele Ayeni led team- giant-killing run alive and extend their unbeaten run to two matches – becoming the first team to win two consecutive matches in the ongoing tournament. With confidence level on the rising, having not lost in the last 5 consecutive matches against NPFL sides, players of Cynosure Fc were faced with the task of overcoming the opposition posted by a non NPFL side Fc Ebedei. Two quick goals (Solomon Chigozie 2' & Ogar David 6') in the first ten minutes of the encounter ensured Cynosure Fc registered another victory at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure in 2-0 win over Fc Ebedei keeping their unbeaten run in the tournament intact and becoming the first team to qualify to the semifinals of the tournament. Cynosure Fc will confront Sunshine Stars of Akure in their last group match.
