Deborah Quickpen Project Truncated As Bomo Kikigha Part Ways

Bayelsa State Chess coach Bomo Kikigha has parted ways with prodigy Deborah Quickpen one month after she returned from the Africa Youth Chess Championship in Namibia.

Coach Bomo said he decided to sever ties with the Deborah Quickpen project because the plans he has for the little girl had been truncated, explaining that the real amount of money meant for her had not been remitted to the family of the chess stars.

He alleged that some persons had hijacked the Deborah Quickpen project, using it to enrich themselves, warning that this was capable of affecting the young player’s career.

The chess champion lamented that despite his sacrifices and time devoted to see that the seven old Quickpen excel in the global arena, those who do not have any business with chess were on a mission to destroy such plans and soil his reputation.

He noted that before the Bayelsa government gave one million naira support, the money raised including that from the Governor elect, Chief David Lyon would have been enough to see her participate in the Africa Youth Chess Championship in Namibia.

Deborah Quickpen finished 6th in the recently held Africa Youth Chess Championship in Namibia with 5.5 points same with Kenya’s Fantails Lucy in the Under Eight category.
