Dennerby To Dump Falcons As NFF Sets To Replace Him With Danjuma

The coach of the Super falcons Thomas Dennerby, is considering pulling out of coaching the Nigerian team, claiming that some influential members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were probing into his way of operation in the team, thereby influencing some of his decisions.

The 60-year-old Swedish international , has been in-charge of the Super Falcons for over 18 months. A source close to the NFF said the Swede, who led the Super falcons of Nigeria to their 11th African Women Nations Cup triumph last year in Ghana and also helping them to reach the round of 16 at the 2019 Women World Cup in France , left the country immediately after Nigeria’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier against Algeria at the Agege Stadium on September 3.

“Dennerby complained that some NFF officials were making his job difficult for some selfish reasons.“These officials ensured that some players, who complained that they were being owed allowances and winning bonuses, were shut out of the national team. These officials wield enormous power in the women teams.

“He got angry that these people have taken their activities to his team selection and decided the best thing to do was to go away. But we are trying to talk to him and address his concerns in the interest of the nation,” the source said.

According to reports, Dennerby was preparing the Super Falcons for a match against Cote d’Ivoire after edging out Algeria in the qualifying round to gain a chance of participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; for which federation recently invited 30 overseas and home-based players to camp. The players, according to the NFF, are expected to arrive in camp today, but reports have it that the 60 year old may not return.

According to reports, the NFF has asked Falconets’ Head Coach, Christopher Danjuma to take charge of the team for the Cote d’Ivoire game. The Super falcons will take on Cote d'ivoire on September 30 for the first leg with the second leg been scheduled for October 8.
